Michel Malecot is the Chef, Owner, Founder, and President of The French Gourmet, Inc. He graduated from the cooking school of St Amand-Montrond and received certification for dining
room service in Tour, France in 1970. Michel worked in France, England, Germany and the famous cruise ship "Le Mermoz" prior to coming to the United States in 1972. During his time working in Miami, Naples and Manhattan, he learned how to adapt his techniques and expand his recipes to please the American palate.
In 1976, Michel moved to San Diego and continued to fine-tune his culinary skills at Le Cote D' Azur Restaurant in La Jolla. In 1979 he left Le Cote D'Azur to open The French Gourmet.
Michel is known throughout San Diego for his expertise as a caterer. A firm believer in being true to tradition he extracts the flavors of the ingredients of his well-adapted menus to the off-premise catering environment. He attends various catering conferences, as well as food and wine trade shows.
The French Gourmet is primarily a catering company, which is supported by its own restaurant and bakery. Michel and his sales team work with some of San Diego's leading corporations and
finest citizens in providing catering solutions for their professional and personal milestones.
The French Gourmet is known for working with many charitable organizations in creating cost effective menus and logistical catering solutions. Michel enjoys sharing his cooking talents by donating VIP dinners as auction item at the functions French Gourmet caters. This helps raise thousands of dollars for numerous charities in San Diego.
Located at 960 Turquoise Street in Pacific Beach, The French Gourmet is comprised of a state-of-the-art catering commissary, executive offices, a restaurant and bakery.
Michel has been married to Lesa since 1989; they are the proud parents of three sons and one daughter. Michel enjoys gardening and wine tasting, and, of course, cooking for his family and
friends.
